Op-Ed 2023
No more climate legislation needed — it's time for action
An op-ed urging Massachusetts to focus on delivering clean energy infrastructure and removing the practical barriers to implementation.
In this April 2023 op-ed, Joan Fitzgerald and Michael J. Walsh argue that Massachusetts should focus on carrying out its climate commitments. Their concern is the gap between ambitious goals and the work needed to meet them.
Drawing on their assessment of Boston’s climate progress, they point to practical needs: a larger skilled workforce, better data sharing, neighborhood pilots, and support that makes building upgrades accessible to lower-income households. They call for state and local leaders to use the authority and programs already available to turn plans into infrastructure.
